BORIS BIRMAHER
Dr. Birmaher holds the Endowed Chair in Early Onset Bipolar Disease and is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh, School of Medicine. Additionally, he serves as the Director of the Child and Adolescent Bipolar Spectrum Services. A prominent figure in the study and treatment of pediatric mood and anxiety disorders, Dr. Birmaher has played a pioneering role in understanding the course and treatment of childhood-onset bipolar disorder. He has been the Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator for over 25 federally-sponsored research grants and projects, and has authored over 490 articles in peer-reviewed journals. Through his research, clinical work, and mentorship, Dr. Birmaher has advanced our understanding of risk factors for mood and anxiety disorders, developed innovative treatments to enhance the well-being of patients and their families, and trained the next generation of educators, clinicians, and researchers in these fields.
